94-year-old from Ottawa dead in head-on Pembroke crash

An Ottawa man is dead after two vehicles collided head-on near Pembroke on Monday.
Provincial police were called to Highway 17 near Paul Martin Drive in the Ottawa Valley for a serious crash around 11:35 a.m. When they arrived, Renfrew County Paramedics and firefighters from the Township of Laurentian Valley were also called.
The crash happened between a car and an SUV. Police said the evidence indicated the two vehicles were driving in opposite directions before they collided.
As a result of the incident, a 94-year-old man from the nation’s capital was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 32-year-old from the Laurentian Valley in the SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle, police detail.
Officials are continuing the investigation that closed Highway 17 for almost eight hours on Monday. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are leading the investigation that will include a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
