Man arrested and 24 alcohol interventions: Downtown Ottawa police recap

Police are continuing to remind the public, give out tickets and catch people disobeying Ottawa laws in downtown.
Each summer for the last two years, police have created a larger presence in the downtown core and ByWard Market as people stay out late and enjoy the city’s summer nightlife. The patrols are proactive in nature, officials have previously said; however, officers are laying several offences against people.
Between Friday and Saturday night, the presence in the downtown led to traffic stops, several tickets and one arrest.
The result of the initiative are:
- 24 alcohol interventions
- 16 licensed establishment walkthroughs
- 18 public interactions
- four traffic stops
- 14 by-law infractions
- six parking tickets
- 15 by-law warnings
- 3 Provincial Offence Notices issued under the Trespass to Property Act
- one arrest
The man arrested in the incident was charged with an impersonation offence and possible breaches of release conditions. A vehicle was also seized in connection with the investigation.
Police also noted that when they walked through a licensed establishment, they removed one person from the business.
“OPS will continue working with city and provincial enforcement partners throughout the summer to support a safe environment for residents, visitors, businesses and frontline workers in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau area,” the release reads.
