Suspect description released after serious Deep River stabbing

More than a week after an assault sent an Ottawa Valley town into a shelter-in-place, police are releasing a description of a person they’re looking for.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in an updated message the suspect wanted in connection with the case is a man, who is white or light-skinned, tall, thin and at the time of the incident was wearing light-coloured pants and a dark hoodie.
No photo was released in the case.
Officials are asking people not to approach him and to call 911.
Last week, police asked residents in the area of McElligott Drive to comb through security footage and submit it, days after the incident. On Sept. 9 emergency responders were called to the town near Golf Course Road.
They found a victim suffering from stab wounds. They were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where they remain.
Rumours cause issues for investigators
For more than 12 hours the small town was under a shelter-in-place because the suspect was still on the run.
In the days that followed, police got information from the public about a person wearing construction clothing who was in the area around the time of the incident. Police said in a statement they have determined that the person was not responsible for the assault.
“Police are providing this clarification to address information that has circulated publicly and to help ensure investigative efforts remain focused on relevant information,” it notes.
An increased police presence is expected to continue as officers conduct their investigation.
