Devontay Hackett guilty in 2014 prom night murder

OTTAWA – An Ottawa man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal prom night stabbing of Brandon Volpi.

Devontay Hackett, 21, was found guilty after two days of jury deliberations.

He had pleaded not guilty.

Volpi was stabbed outside Les Suites Hotel on Besserer Street on June 7, 2014, following post-prom celebrations.

Both Devontay Hackett and Brandon Volpi were 18 at the time.

Hackett, was arrested in Toronto on a Canada-wide warrant nearly a month after the stabbing.

According to Postmedia, the evidence against Hackett included video and DNA, but the murder weapon was never found.
