OTTAWA – Eugene Melnyk isn’t fond of the plans for a new Hard Rock Casino at the Rideau Carleton Raceway.
According to Postmedia, after multiple attempts over the last five years to bring a casino to Kanata, the Ottawa Senators’ owner isn’t happy with the way the city and Mayor Jim Watson handled this case, and he’s determined to find out how this happened.
Melnyk tells the paper he heard about this development through a press release and was never informed by the mayor’s office about it.
It was back in 2013 that Melnyk made a bid for a $500 million project that would bring a casino to the Canadian Tire Centre after the Senators moved to a different venue.
However, city council backed the Rideau Carleton Raceway as the only acceptable location for a gaming centre in Ottawa.
