Hour 1:
Rob is back. It's a busy news day at Ottawa city hall, as we mourn the untimely death of one of Ottawa's great journalists: Longtime municipal politics reporter and columnist Sue Sherring has passed away.
10:56 – “The drive reported the noise right away, which is good. The maintainers taken the trains out of service proactively, which is good. And we're going to get the inspections done.”
Rob is joined by city transit commission chair, councillor Allan Hubley, with an update on why some LRT trains have been pulled out of service for special maintenance after concerns were raised about issues with wheel assemblies.
20:21 – “They're looking at a 30% reduction of nitrous oxide based solely on fertilizer sales…they're not talking to us about how we do what we do and what we can do to mitigate this going forward. And that's what's really frustrating here.”
Rob is joined by Keith Currie, vice president with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, to discuss a new federal government policy that's poised to add to food inflation and impact crop yields on Ontario farms.
31:47 – “First of all, you have to be really well prepared. You have to understand what the criticisms are, you better have some very clear answers. You must know what the anticipated questions are and you must have good answers for them. They won't take evasion.”
Rogers Communications executives will be on the hot seat this afternoon at a Parliamentary Committee. Our crisis communications expert Barry McLoughlin is here with a preview of the grilling they will face after the national service outage earlier this month.

Hour 3:
0:00 – “It's original mandate was to investigate across international borders trans-national crimes. It's not an organization, what it is really is a network. It's a hub. National jurisdictions work together to prosecute crimes.”
International affairs columnist Geoffrey Johnston joins Rob for a conversation about the ongoing international efforts to investigate war crimes in Ukraine, as well as the conclusion of the Jan. 6 committee hearings in the United States.
21:00 – “I don't use the word 'reconciliation' I've always used the word 'reconcili-action'. Because actions speak much, much louder than words. You can say nice, fancy, feel-good words but it's the action that has to come from an apology.”
As Pope Francis meets with Indigenous leaders in Alberta today ahead of a widely-anticipated apology for the Catholic Church's role in Canada's residential school system, Rob speaks with local Algonquin elder Claudette Commanda about the significance of this event.
34:24 – “Four years is a long time in politics, as I said in my statement…I had been looking forward to working with this new council, but, you know, life is fleeting. And I think I really have to take this opportunity to do other things.”
Rob is joined by city councillor Carol Anne Meehan, who has just announced she will not be seeking re-election this fall, to discuss her decision not to re-offer.
