Registration for City day camps now open to kids affected by upcoming school strike

As elementary and secondary school teachers ramp up for a one-day strike Wednesday, the City of Ottawa announced registration for its day camps for children affected by school closures are open.
Starting Monday, parents can sign up kids between the ages of four and 12 for English or French camps that run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The cost of the camps are $40 a day and are available at the following locations:
English camps:
- Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex – Orléans
- St-Laurent Complex
- Hintonburg Community Centre
- Greenboro Community Centre
- Rideauview Community Centre
- Walter Baker Sports Centre
- Richcraft Recreation Complex – Kanata
- CARDELREC Recreation Complex (Goulbourn)
- Kanata Recreation Complex
- Sawmill Creek Community Centre
- Greely Community Centre
- Manotick Community Centre
French camps:
- Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex – Orleans
- St-Laurent Complex
- Sandy Hill Community Centre
Pre- and post-camp care is available for an extra fee from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the following facilities:
- Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex – Orleans
- St-Laurent Complex
- Greenboro Community Centre
A list of camps are available on the City of Ottawa website.
Registration can be done online or in person at the City recreation facilities and client Service Centres. A Family PIN and client barcode are needed for registration. If you've forgotten your PIN and barcode, please email 123GO@ottawa.ca.
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board also announced Friday that elementary school teachers will no longer supervise extra-curricular activities unless they are scheduled within the regular school day.
Teachers will also not participate in field trips, and were advised by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) not to arrive to work earlier than 30 minutes before the start of the school day.
If an agreement is not reached by Jan. 17, the ETFO says they will begin rotating strikes at select school boards starting Monday, January 20.
