GoFundMe launched for La Pêche mother after fire which left two dead

By Alex Black

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support a local mother whose two children are missing after a fire over the weekend.

Fire tore through the family home on Murray Road in La Pêche, about 40 minutes north of Ottawa, late Saturday night, with a man, a woman and two young girls inside the residence at the time.

While MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais spokesman Martin Fournel says an autopsy, happening later this week in Montreal, is needed to confirm the identity of the deceased.

It's believed the two children, Kiersten, 6, and Brooklyn, 4, were in their beds when the fire broke out.

The mother of the two girls, Ashley, sustained severe burns in the fire. Fournel says she was injured when she tried to go back inside the home to find her children. Ashley's injuries were originally considered life-threatening, and while her condition has improved, she will need at least two surgical operations to perform skin grafts.

The man inside the residence was also injured.
