A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the surviving victim of a homicide in Ottawa's Alta Vista neighbourhood.

On Monday, June 27, Anne-Marie Ready, 50, and her daughter Jasmine Ready, 15, were both stabbed to death at a home on Anoka Street, while Anne Marie's eldest daughter Catherine Ready, 19, suffered severe stabbing injuries and was taken to hospital.

A man was killed by members of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) in a hail of gunfire at the scene after police say he was found in the act of stabbing Catherine.

The GoFundMe campaign in support of Catherine has been set up by members of the family's Dojo.

“We are the Karate family of Anne-Marie and Jasmine Ready who both tragically lost their lives on Monday, June 27th, 2022, in the Alta-Vista neighbourhood of Ottawa,” says the campaign page. “They leave behind Anne-Marie's eldest daughter, Catherine, who is recovering from severe injuries in the hospital. This GoFundMe is to raise money to help Catherine, whose life is forever changed, to aid with recovery during these difficult times. The family is originally from Guyana and is also very missed by the Guyanese community. Anything you can offer this young woman is greatly needed and appreciated.”

As of 9 a.m. on Monday, July 4, $22,394 had been raised of a $50,000 goal.
