UPDATE: LRT train derailment near Riverside Drive suspends Line 1 service

No one was injured as a result of an afternoon LRT train derailment near Riverside Drive, Ottawa Fire Services has confirmed.
At about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, crews received a call about the incident and responded — the derailment, they say, was minor in nature.
“A train became immobilized between Tremblay and Hurdman Stations due to a derailment. There were no injuries and all passengers have been accommodated. As a precautionary measure, Line 1 service has been suspended and full R1 service has been deployed,” director of transit operations Troy Charter said in a statement to CityNews Ottawa.
Before their arrival, OC Transpo had de-energized the train and stopped train traffic in both directions.
Crews assisted with the evacuation of the people on board.
Firefighters remained on location to ensure the train would not need to be stabilized prior to an investigation being conducted.
General Manager of Transportation Services John Manconi released a statement later Sunday afternoon in which he said, “We have notified the Transportation Safety Board of Canada of a train derailment on O-Train 1 line between Tremblay and Hurdman stations.”
The next steps, he added, are for the technical team to assess the situation.
“We are waiting for TSB investigators to provide clearance to undertake the inspection of the derailment.”
R1 bus services continues to operate throughout the entire line.
