Abuse allegation at City of Ottawa run daycare ‘unfounded’: Police

By CityNews Ottawa staff

An allegation of abuse at a City of Ottawa run daycare centre that prompted an investigation by the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa earlier this month has been deemed “unfounded” by the Ottawa Police Service (OPS).

In a memo to Ottawa City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 12, Clara Freire, the general manager of community and social services with the City of Ottawa, said an employee at the Dr. Ernest Couture Child Care Centre had been removed and placed on investigatory leave. Freire noted that the allegation was “sexual in nature.”

The incident was reported to Ottawa police, and no other details were provided at the time.

CityNews Ottawa reached out to police for comment immediately and received word back from OPS on Tuesday, Sept. 26 that said, “The complaint was investigated and it was deemed unfounded; as such the police investigation has concluded.”
