Former Belleville Senators head coach Troy Mann has been hired by the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to serve as the club’s new bench boss, the team announced Tuesday.

Mann takes over for Luca Caputi, who was relieved of his coaching duties of the Frontenacs on Monday.

Mann, who was the longtime head coach Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, was fired in February. He had a 150-117-15-7 record in 289 games behind the bench with Belleville and the dismissal raised eyebrows in the hockey world.

In his time as coach in Belleville, several players graduated from the AHL to the NHL to become key players on Ottawa’s roster, including Drake Batherson, Josh Norris, Erik Brannstrom and, most recently, Ridly Greig.

Mann takes over head coaching duties immediately.

The Frontenacs will be in action this upcoming Friday, Oct. 27 for Hockey Fights Cancer Night and host the Oshawa Generals before heading to Mississauga to play the Steelheads on Saturday, Oct. 28.
