OPP recover 2 stolen vehicles after short chase; 2 arrested

Police recovered two stolen vehicles and charged two men Tuesday morning.

The Lennox and Addington (L&A) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they were given a tip by Quinte West OPP around 9:00 a.m. about a stolen truck driving eastbound on Highway 401 in Tyendinaga Township.

The truck had been scanned by an Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR).

Police said the driver of the stolen vehicle refused to stop.

OPP officers deployed a spike belt in front of the truck at Palace Road, hitting all four tires and the truck exited at County Road 4 into a field where the driver fled on foot and was arrested.

Police said during the chase, there was another ALPR hit for a stolen Jeep heading eastbound on Highway 401 in the area which officers blocked.

The lone occupant of the jeep was also arrested.

Two men from Quebec, 36 and 27, are facing several charges, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possessing an automobile master key and operation while prohibited.

The 27-year-old man is also facing dangerous driving, flight from police officer and obstructing peace officer charges.

Both accused are being held for a bail hearing.

There is currently no set court date.
