Ottawa man charged following serious collision that injured 2

An Ottawa man is facing a slew of charges following a July 3 crash that sent two to hospital.

Police say on that evening, officers observed a vehicle “travelling at a high rate of speed” on Hwy 417.

OPS says shortly after, the vehicle collided with another vehicle.

Both the driver and the passenger, a 22-year-old female, of the first vehicle were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Following the collision the Special Investigations Unit invoked its mandate to investigate as it standard when a person is seriously injured or killed during an interaction with police.

OPS is continuing its investigation but has laid charges against 35-year-old Guy Lavergne from Ottawa.

He has been charged with the following:

  • Impaired Operation Causing Bodily Harm;
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm;
  • Flight from Peace Officer; and
  • Five Counts of Operation While Prohibited.

There has been no update on the SIU investigation.
