Ottawa sets record for world’s largest bear hug

Ottawa is the bear hug capital of the world.

That’s the official designation that will be announced Thursday by the Ottawa Catholic School Board following their meeting.

Last May, more than 16,000 students from Ottawa Catholic schools gathered along the Rideau Canal to create the world’s largest bear hug.

The event was aimed at reclaiming the record the students set in 2004 for the Guinness Book of World Records.

It also raised $500,000 for cancer research.

The book now reads: Ottawa: bear hug capital of the world.
