Ottawa River watchdog says city sewage problems remain

One Ottawa River watchdog said the city has a long way to go to tackle its sewage problems that came to light back in 2009.

She made her comments on world water day Tuesday.

Ottawa River keeper Meredith Brown told The Citizen more than 115,000 cubic metres of sewage overflow had been dumped into the Ottawa River since November 4 and that didn’t include run-off from the latest snowfall on Monday.

Although Brown noted a few improvements, she said if you look at the amount of untreated sewage going into the river it was still in the millions, upward to a billion litres annually.
