Heat warning in effect for Ottawa

OTTAWA — A heat warning remains in effect for Canada Day from Ottawa Public Health.

The forecast calls for the humidex to hover near 40C on Tuesday.

Ottawa Public Health warns people to take the following precautions:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water and limit or avoid caffeine and alcohol
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity outdoors
  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun and look for shade
  • Spend at least two hours a day in an air-conditioned location
  • Never leave children, the elderly or pets unattended in a car, even with the windows open

The warning is issued when the humidex is forecast to reach 40C for two consecutive days.
