Amazon wish list set up to help victims of Ottawa tornadoes during holidays

By Jenn Pritchard

People in the West Carleton area have been busy, cleaning up after a tornado ripped through their community on September 21, and with the holidays upon us, there is the added stress of getting gifts under the tree.

Tanya Laughlin lives in the area and wanted to take action, to help out those who need a bit of a boost.

She created an Amazon Wish List that includes items requested by 143 families in the area.

The items on the list aren't just to help with the rebuild, it also includes some fun items.

“The registry is a way for them to lessen their financial burden over the holidays,” she explained. “It's up to them what they request. It can be Christmas items, it can be basics just that they need for day-to-day, it can be items that they lost and they miss, that they can't afford to replace.”

Laughlin said, if it means buying someone an Xbox controller or some Lego, it's something that allows someone going through a tough time to have a little fun.

The gift registry also gives people a chance to make a donation that will go directly to a family, with no charity as a middleman.

All the gifts should be ordered by December 20, giving them enough time to get them delivered to the families for Christmas.
