Cineplex theatres in Ottawa, Cornwall reopening following provincial lockdown

By Dani-Elle Dubé

After weeks of enduring the provincial lockdown, Cineplex has announced it will be reopening more of its Ontario theatres — this time, to audiences in Ottawa and Cornwall.

Five Ottawa theatres are on the list, as well as one Cornwall location, the company confirmed in a news release Friday.

“We are excited to welcome our guests back to select Cineplex theatres across the province, as nothing compares to the big screen experience that we’ve all been missing,” Sarah Van Lange, executive director of communications of Cineplex, said. “We continue to prioritize health & safety measures to ensure that our theatres are a safe, relaxing, and inviting space for movie-lovers to unwind and escape with family and friends.”

Six theatres have already opened across the province earlier this month, one of which includes a location in Brockville.

As of Friday, February 26, the following Ottawa and Cornwall locations will be back up and running:

  • Cineplex Odeon South Keys
  • Cineplex Odeon Barrhaven
  • Cineplex Cineplex Lansdowne & VIP
  • Cineplex Cinemas Ottawa
  • Scotiabank Theatre Ottawa
  • Galaxy Cinemas Cornwall

The company said all theatres will continue to operate with enhanced safety and cleaning measures, as well as updated procedures to allow for physical distancing both inside and outside auditoriums.
