City of Ottawa honouring Queen Elizabeth II

By Anil Jhalli

The City of Ottawa is marking the death of Queen Elizabeth II by lowering flags at all City sites to half-mast where they will remain until sunset on the day of her funeral.

The public will be able to leave messages online on the City of Ottawa's website and in two books located inside Ottawa City Hall beginning Sept. 9 until sunset on the day of her funeral.

Municipal, federal and provincial buildings will not be closed, according to the City. On the day of the Queen's funeral, there will be a guns salute – location to be determined – with one round fired for each year of her life.

CF-18 jets will fly over Parliament Hill and the Christ's Church Cathedral on the day of the funeral.
