City proclaiming day in honour of Ottawa speed skater

By CityNews Ottawa

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, along with Beacon-Hill Cyrville Ward Councillor Tim Tierney, will proclaim April 9 as Isabelle Weidemann Day in the capital.

The recognition is to honour the Ottawa speed skater for her three podium finishes at the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing earlier this year, where she captured Canada's first medal.

She is a multiple Olympic medallist, winning gold in the team pursuit, silver in the 5,000 metre event, and bronze in the 3,000 metre event at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.  She is the third Canadian ever to have won more than two medals at a single Winter Olympics Games.
