Fire causes $300K in damages to Gatineau apartment building

There were no injuries reported after a two-alarm fire in a three-storey apartment building in Gatineau overnight. 

Gatineau fire crews responded to 565 Pointe-Gatineau Street around 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28. 

A fire had broken out inside a basement apartment and when crews arrived on scene, flames were visible at the back of the building and on the balcony of one unit. 

The fire spread from the basement to the second floor and affected the laundry room and four apartment units. 

Firefighters battled the blaze for over three hours, bringing it under control around 4:30 a.m.

About thirty people were evacuated due to the fire and nine of those people were taken into the care of the Canadian Red Cross. 

Damage to the building is pegged around $300,000.
