Firefighters stop roof fire at Orléans restaurant from spreading further into eatery

Firefighters have knocked down a fire on the roof of an Orléans restaurant before it spread and caused any further damage.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) crews were called to the scene at Rangoli Indian Cuisine and Sweets on St. Joseph Boulevard, between Dusserre and St. Jean Streets, at about 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, November 3, after receiving multiple reports of smoke and flames coming from the restaurant’s roof.

One of the 911 callers told one of the dispatchers that they were going to go back inside.

The dispatcher, however, discouraged the caller from doing so and convinced them to stay outside and to stay a safe distance away from the building.

The first crew arrived at about 5:20 p.m. and confirmed the flames, and started attacking the fire while the second crew on scene started checking the inside of the building.

The fire was quickly extinguished by 5:30 p.m. and OFS proceeded to check for any extensions and hot spots.

Firefighters confirmed the fire didn’t extend to the inside of the building.

A fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
