A mix of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain is expected to descend upon Ottawa Thursday afternoon, Feb. 9, according to an Environment Canada special weather statement.

Starting off as snow on Thursday afternoon, precipitation will transition to ice pellets and freezing rain by night time. The special weather statement says “a prolonged period of freezing rain is expected,” with the  possibility of a few millimetres of accretion.

Additionally, areas closer to the Ontario-Quebec border could see snowfall accumulation of up to 10 centimetres.
