Kathleen Caught committed to improving mental health

By CityNews Ottawa

Kathleen Caught is a new face running in the municipal election for the Barrhaven East ward.

On Thursday, July 14, Caught told The Sam Laprade Show that she chose to run for Barrhaven because it's where she raised her boys and where her mom spent time in a long-term care facility before passing away.

“My heart is still there,” she said.

Caught said that although there are many issues to focus on, mental health is at the core of her campaign.

As the founder of the Facebook page Ottawa Mental Health Resources, she said she's committed to improving access to mental health resources and expanding the newly created Mental Wellbeing Response Team.

“In my opinion, one of the most important issues is to make sure we're healthy, and mental health is at the core of it,” she said.

In addition to her mental health focus, Caught said that 40 years of working in the service industry in the financial field has trained her well for representing other people's interests.

“Making sure people's personal comments and personal interests are at the forefront is my concern,” she said, adding that her ability to get people to work together is another skill she brings to the table.

Having worked in the political background at the federal and provincial levels, Caught said she is eager to be involved at the local level.

“It's definitely something I'm familiar with, I know the community, and I know what's important to me,” she said.
