Longer end-to-end travel times expected following O-Train ‘technical issues’

By CityNews Ottawa

Transit riders could experience longer end-to-end wait times following 'technical issues' on the O-Train Line 1.

In a memo from OC Transpo's general manager, Renée Amilcar said there are currently 22 or 11 double-car trains in service, after full service of the trains resumed on Friday, July 29.

The Rideau Transit Group (RTG) and Alstom will continue to investigate the root cause and plans to replace the axle hubs over the weekend. So far, no other issues have been identified.

“No further issues have been discovered during the replacement of the axle hubs,” Amilcar said. “I want to thank our customers again for their patience as repairs were being made. I recognize this was challenging for many.”

Amilcar added, that RTG and Alstom have asked that temporary speed restrictions (TSRS) be implemented along sections of the track, which will add an extra four to five minutes onto customer travel times.

OC Transpo anticipates having more trains cleared and in service next week.
