New COVID-19 case numbers back in the double digits but ICUs remain empty for third day

New COIVD-19 cases have jumped and are now back in the double digits after a few days of reporting single-digit numbers, although hospital numbers and active cases remain favourable.

Ottawa Public Health reported 14 new cases of the virus in the city on Saturday — that’s up from Friday’s three.

This brings the total case count since the pandemic started to 27,693.

Currently, there is only one patient in hospital with COVID.

Ottawa is also on its third day of having no patients in ICUs anywhere in the city.

Active cases have also seen a drop to 56 from yesterday’s 63.

There are no new deaths to report, keeping the local death toll at 591.

Only one new outbreak in the community has been recorded, bringing the current number of ongoing outbreaks in the community to two.

And in childcare centres and schools, there are no ongoing outbreaks.

The incidence rate remains at 4.6 per 100,000 cases for the second day, as well as the positivity rate at 0.5 per cent.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit has removed seven cases in its total count on Saturday, according to the Ontario government.

Renfrew County and District has only one new case to report, unchanged from yesterday’s report.

And the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit has no new cases.

For Saturday, there are 209 cases recorded across the province, bringing the total case count to 545,590. That’s slightly up from Friday’s 200 cases, but a drop from Thursday’s 284.

Nine deaths have been added to the provincial death toll, bringing the number to 9,205.

And resolved cases have jump by 262 since yesterday.

Hospitalizations across the province, however, have increased by 27, bringing the current total to 206.

There are nine fewer patients in the ICU, which brings the number down to 243, however, there are five more people on a ventilator (now 165).

The Ontario government reports completing 17,080 tests since Friday. From those tested, one per cent were positive.
