‘No threat to public safety:’ Ottawa fire hazmat team responds to suspicious envelope at Ottawa office building

By Alex Black

A suspicious envelope led to some scary moments for a handful of employees at an office building in downtown Ottawa.

The Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) hazmat team and the Ottawa Paramedic Service responded to a building on Queen Street, near the World Exchange Plaza, on the afternoon of Thursday, April 29.

The envelope, which contained an unknown substance, was opened just before 5 p.m.

Nearby workers were exposed to the substance, but OFS says there were no injuries and none of the people exposed needed medical treatment.

OFS tells CityNews Ottawa, nobody was evacuated from buildings in the area and there was no danger to the public.
