The Ottawa International Airport hit a major milestone late last year — 5-million passengers served.
The airport officially hit 5-million passengers on December 23, 2018 and by the end of the year 5,110,801 passengers had made their way through the local airport.
This is a 5.6 per cent increase over 2017 and is a new record for the Ottawa Airport.
“Five million passengers is an important milestone for the Ottawa International Airport, and for the City of Ottawa,” said Mark Laroche, President and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority. “The distinction puts YOW in the next class of airport in terms of size, but more importantly, confirms that the local economy is doing well.”
Airport officials explained that the increase in passenger volume could not be attributed to one factor but said that their large base of domestic flights saw steady gains in 2017 and trans-border flights also increased.
The Ottawa Macdonald Cartier International Airport Authority helps generate more than $2.2-billion a year in economic activity in Ottawa and Gatineau.
