Ottawa fire respond to early morning blaze in Lowertown

Crews were called to an apartment on Guigues Street, following reports of fire in a bedroom. 

Ottawa Fire Services responded to a blaze early Friday morning after receiving a call about a blaze in an apartment on Guigues Street, off King Edward Avenue.

The call came from one of the occupants of unit 201 at 248 Guigues Street, about fire coming from their roommate's bedroom.

Crews arrived on scene around 2 a.m. and noticed smoke coming from a window at the rear of the building.

The blaze was confined to a single bedroom and the caller was the only one in the apartment at the time of the fire.

Firefighters declared the blaze under control around 2:45 a.m. and no injuries have been reported.

An Ottawa Fire investigator has been dispatched to determine the cause.

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting those affected by the incident.
