Ottawa Fire respond to multiple blazes since Friday evening

Ottawa fire crews responded to multiple blazes between Friday evening and Saturday morning, with one person requiring care from paramedics.

Crews first got word of a fire at a residence on Westhaven Crescent just after 6 p.m. Friday. According to a release from Ottawa Fire Services, the caller put water over the blaze, assuming the fire was extinguished.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered black smoke coming from the second floor and declared a working fire. The fire was under control around 6:15 p.m. with a loss stopped being declared at 7 p.m.

A patient required care from Ottawa paramedics, but paramedics did not elaborate on the person's condition. A fire investigator was sent to determine the cause of the blaze.

Meanwhile, crews responded to another blaze shortly after on Woodroffe Avenue. According to Ottawa Fire Services, the call came in shortly after 8 p.m. and a working fire was declared upon arrival. The blaze was quickly knocked down and no injuries were reported.

In the meantime, firefighters responded to a blaze at an apartment building on Richmond Road early Saturday morning. Crews got word of smoke and flames coming from an eighth-floor balcony shortly after 1:30 a.m.

Based on caller description, a working fire was declared while crews were en route to the building. Upon arrival, it was discovered the fire spread from the balcony to the unit, with firefighters quickly knocking it out.

A loss stopped was declared right before 2 a.m. and no injuries were reported.

According to Ottawa Fire Services, an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze is not necessary.
