Ottawa police officer borrows bike to chase down suspect

By Alex Black

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is thanking a local cyclist for lending a hand — or rather a bike — during a police chase in the south end.

Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, the officers pulled over a vehicle near Conroy and Johnston roads and was given a fake name by the driver.

An investigation revealed the driver was prohibited from driving in Canada and when the officers tried to make an arrest, the person resisted and fled the scene on foot.

According to police, the officers gave chase and one borrowed a bicycle from a cyclist at the scene in an attempt to catch up with the man.

The man was ultimately arrested and now face several charges.

The bike was then returned and the cyclist was thanked by police.
