To make International Women's Day, the City of Ottawa will present former governor general Michaëlle Jean with the key to the city.

The presentation will be made at the annual International Women's Day breakfast at city hall at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, by Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and Councillor Theresa Kavanagh, the city's council liaison for women and gender equity.

Jean will also deliver the event's keynote speech.

The city says Jean is being recognized for her illustrious and distinguished career as a journalist, 27th Governor General of Canada, UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti and third Secretary General of La Francophonie.

You can watch the ceremony on the city's YouTube channel, rogerstv.com or Rogers TV Cable 22.

International Women's Day, recognized every March 8, aims to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women.
