Ottawa School breakfast program receives second $75K donation

The Ottawa Network for Education received another $75,000 donation from the Capital Integral Charitable Foundation, the second installment of a three-year fundraising campaign.

Capital Integral Charitable Foundation (CICF), the philanthropic foundation of Ottawa property management firm Capital Integral, entered into an agreement with the Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE) to fundraise a minimum of $75,000 each year, providing 75,000 meals to school children in need.

For the second year in a row, CICF met their target goal,

“All of our board members have either been to school in the Ottawa area or I still have children in the school system, and more and more we hear that kids just aren't getting the breakfast they need,” said Capital Integral president Dan Fried on The Sam Laprade Show. “We thought this was such a great way to really have a direct impact on the communities that have supported us over the years and help support our kids.”

CICF raised the funds through commitments from major donors, an online auction and a charity golf tournament which brought in more than half of their target goal for the year.

“Because we're involved with the breakfast program, we did a breakfast golf tournament which is a little unusual,” said CICF chair Kevin Darling, joining Fried on The Sam Laprade Show. “We targeted $40,000 for that tournament, and that's what we ended up with. $40,000 in a day.”

ONFE's school breakfast program serves over 14,500 meals every day, but the increasing cost of living and food insecurity is leading to a rise in demand for the program. Over the past three years ONFE has added 35 schools and more than 1,000 students to their breakfast program.
