Partial VIA Rail service resumes between Québec City and Ottawa

By OttawaMatters Staff

VIA Rail service between Québec City, Montréal and Ottawa will resume later this week.

Trains 22, 24, 26 and 28 leaving from Ottawa, and trains 33, 35, 37 and 39, leaving from Québec City, will all be resuming Thursday morning.

According to VIA Rail, only the trains with full trips between those destinations will resume service.

All current reservations on those segments will be honoured. VIA Rail has said that it is reaching out to passengers with reservations that have not been cancelled with an update on the latest developments.

All other VIA Rail services are still cancelled until further notice, with the exception of Sudbury-White River (CP Rail) and Churchill-The Pas (Hudson Bay Railway).

VIA Rail said in a news release that they, “remain hopeful for an end to the situation as soon as possible and encourage all relevant parties to continue their efforts towards a peaceful resolution.”

Protesters in solidarity with the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs opposed to the LNG pipeline in northern British Columbia began blocking train tracks earlier this month caused VIA Rail to shut down all of its passenger service in Canada.
