‘Putting some away for a rainy day:’ Orléans man wins $500K

By Mike Vlasveld

A 71-year-old forensic investigator from Orléans says his $500,000 lottery win will help him to realize his dreams.

Randy Asserfea matched all seven of his numbers in the January 3, Lotto Max draw.

“I went to buy gas and used the ticket checker in the store,” said Asserfea. That's when the clerk told him he'd won something big.

The 71-year-old has a wife and kids. He plans to pay off his car and mortgage, but also put some money away for a rainy day.

“I'm surprised and happy – I feel blessed,” added Asserfea.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mr. Gas on Innes Road in Orléans.
