Firefighters rescue one person from commercial high-rise fire

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) rescued an occupant from a fire at a commercial high-rise Sunday morning.

OFS reported receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls for fire alarms ringing in the building at 300 Croydon Ave. in Lincoln Heights just before 11:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed there was smoke visible on the seventh floor, with alarms ringing all throughout the building. Firefighters declared a working fire at 10:57 a.m. before rescuing an occupant from the building.

An OC Transpo bus was dispatched to the scene to provide shelter for residents while firefighters continued the fast attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:01 a.m. and was prevented from spreading to other areas of the building.

OFS says high pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke from the structure and air quality was tested and monitored before allowing residents back inside.

An OFS investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
