Schools in Upper Canada board closed, buses cancelled

By CityNews Ottawa

There are school bus cancellations in Smiths Falls and the rest of the Upper Canada District School Board, as well as the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario due to a winter travel advisory.

Schools in the Upper Canada board are also closed, but it is not a snow day. Students are expected to learn remotely by accessing their learning materials on their class digital learning platform, or paper materials that have already been sent home.

Special vehicle transportation is also cancelled for both school boards.

According to a statement from the Upper Canada District School Board, in-class learning will be cancelled whenever bus service is halted.

The transportation outlet is advising parents and guardians to stay in touch with their child's school for communication specific to that institution.

A winter travel advisory is no longer in effect for Brockville, Leeds and Grenville, Prescott and Russell, Cornwall, and Morrisburg as of 8:19 a.m. Wednesday.

Environment Canada says an additional 2 to 4 cm of snow will be possible before tapering off later Wednesday morning.
