Starting this month, Shopify will give free subscriptions to Algonquin College students enrolled in business related programs.

The online giant will offer students enrolled in approved programs, like Business Management and Entrepreneurship (BME), free access to the online business platform. The initiative is part of the company’s Open Learning program, which is meant to empower entrepreneurs with the tools they need.

“The great part of the Open Learning program is that it allows us to further help our innovative and entrepreneurial students achieve their dream of opening a business,” says Dave Donaldson, the dean of the college's school of business, “BME supports students in making their first dollar while in the program and Shopify provides these learners with an easy to use commerce tool.”

These subscriptions will allow students to start, manage and grow their own businesses. The platform also offers them design and content themes for businesses, innovative business apps, and access to online industry experts. Students will also use the platform for assignments and extracurricular activities.

“Shopify’s generosity strengthens Algonquin College’s position as a leader in experiential learning that will foster an entrepreneurial mindset and a hands-on approach among our students,” says Claude Brulé, the college's president and chief executive officer, adding that, “Shopify’s platform offers our learners a powerful tool to develop their skills, business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.”
