Smiths Falls’ PICNIC program back for its third year

By Dani-Elle Dubé

It was such a success in 2020 that the Town of Smiths Falls brought back its PICNIC program for the third year.

First launched in the summer of 2020 to support local restaurants, the program was a way for residents to support local restaurants and allow the public to safely enjoy take-out meals during the pandemic.

“We’re excited to launch PICNIC for the third year in a row, it’s been a great initiative to support our local businesses through COVID. In the past two years, PICNIC has generated over $50,000 in sales and we’re happy to continue the program to support recovery,” Julia Crowder, manager of economic development and tourism, said in a statement issued on Friday, June 10, the day the program kicked off for the 2022 season.

However, there’s a new twist this year.

Instead of mugs like last year, those who purchase a PICNIC BOX will instead receive a free Smiths Falls PICNIC blanket.

The menus include two main dishes, two side dishes, two drinks and dessert.

The participating restaurants so far are Bowie’s Bar, Boomtown Fusion, C’est Tout, Harvest Social, The Pickled Pig, The Vault and 2 Guys for Lunch.

The program anticipates more restaurants will sign up along the way.
