Two people charged with fraud against seniors after incidents in Hawkesbury

The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged two individuals for fraud after incidents targeting seniors. 

The OPP received information that elderly and vulnerable individuals were being targeted for their bank information and the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) began a thorough investigation.

On Sept. 21, the OPP and CSCU conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of two individuals. The investigation revealed that these individuals were in possession of a substantial amount of money, fraudulent credit cards and fraudulent Ontario identification cards.

Ishak Darbeida, 32, from Anjou, Québec was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime- under $5,000 – three counts
  • Possession of a fraudulent credit card – six counts
  • Possession of instrument for use in copying credit cards

Cyrus Noroozi, 24, of Sainte-Geneviève, Québec was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime- under $5,000 – two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime- over $5,000
  • Possession of a fraudulent credit card – six counts
  • Possession of instrument for use in copying credit cards
  • Identity fraud – five counts

The individuals were released from custody and will appear at the l'Orignal Court of Justice on Oct. 10.
