Union reps file complaint against Carleton University amidst strike

By Stuart McGinn

OTTAWA – The union representing striking workers at Carleton University has filed a complaint of unfair labour practice against the school.

A negotiator for CUPE says they're calling out university administration for bargaining in bad faith.

Roughly 850 administrative, library, and technical workers hit the picket lines at the beginning of last week after a deal couldn't be reached by the strike deadline.

The biggest roadblock in negotiations has been pension benefits.

CUPE 2424 says since the strike, Carleton has issued a series of false or misleading communications and has misrepresented its own position on the issues that led to the strike.

According to the union, despite their claims, the school has made no effort or issued any request to return to the bargaining table.
