UPDATE: Police lay charges in connection to shooting death of 18-year-old last week

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Homicide Unit has arrested and charged one individual with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 18-year-old Omar Al-Khalidi. 

Officers responded to the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 after a person arrived with a gunshot wound.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 1500 block of Station Boulevard, not far from the hospital. 

The victim, Al-Khalidi, 18, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Charges were laid against a 17-year-old who is scheduled to appear in court today (Feb. 23). 

The suspect can not be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
