What’s open and closed during New Years weekend

Here is a list of services that are opened, closed and operating on a modified schedule throughout the New Years weekend in Ottawa.
City Services
- Provincial Offences Courts are open by appointment only but will be closed on Monday, January 3.
- Client service centre, including the one at 110 Laurier Ave. W. and at Ben Franklin Place, will be close on Monday, January 3.
- The 311 contact centre will be open for urgent matters that require immediate attention.
Green bin, recycling and garbage collection
- Curbside and multi-residential green bin, garbage and recycling and bulky item collection will happen as per regular schedule. There will be no delay.
- The Trail Waste Facility will be closed on Saturday, January 1.
Parking
- Free parking will be available at City Hall on Laurier Avenue West from Friday, December 31 at 4 p.m. until Sunday, January 2 at 7 a.m.
- The ByWard Market Garage at 70 Clarence St. and the Dalhousie Garage at 141 Clarence St. will have free parking form Friday, December 31 at 4 p.m. until Sunday, January 2 at 7 a.m.
Recreation and cultural services
- Pools, arenas and fitness centres will operate on modified schedules. This includes public swimming, witness and public skating.
- Holiday schedules for refrigerated outdoor rinks — including the Rink of Dreams, Lansdowne Park skating court, Ben Franklin Place skating rink and Jim Tubman Chevrolet Rink — can be found at ottawa.ca/skating.
Ottawa Public Health
- The Site program office and supervise consumption services at 179 Clarence St. will be closed on Saturday, Jan 1 to Monday, January 3.
- The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed on Monday, January 3 but will be open on December 31 for appointments only.
- The Ottawa Public Health Information Centre is closed for general calls from January 1 to 3.
- The COVID-19 phone line at 613-580-6744 will be closed January 1 to 3.
- The Baby Help Line is closed on January 1.
- All municipal childcare centre are closed on Saturday, January 1.
COVID-19
- The Ottawa Public Health COVID-19 Vaccine Booking Line is closed on January 1 and will be open January 2 and 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Visit the COVID-19 vaccine webpage for updated hours for each testing location, which may have modified hours up until January 3.
OC Transpo
- The holiday service will run until January 1.
- Shopper routes will operate on a normal schedule.
- Customer service will be open on New Year’s Eve from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and New Year’s Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Rideau Centre service centre will be closed on New Year’s Day, but will be open on New Year’s Eve from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Para Transpo
The service will operate on a holiday schedule on New Year’s Day.
Regular scheduled trips are automatically cancelled, but customers may book trips for these days by calling 613-560-5000, or by using the online web form, up to seven days before the holidays.
Services will be extended to 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve (with the last trips booked for 2:30 a.m.).
Para Transpo phone reservations and cancellations will be available over the holidays during regular hours, except for New Year’s Eve when cancellations will be available until 3 a.m.
The taxi coupon line will be closed New Year’s Day.
Library services
- The Ottawa Public Library is closed on January 1.
- All branches normally open on Fridays will be open on Friday, December 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
LCBO and Beer Stores
- All LCBO and Beery Store outlets are closed New Year’s Day.
Malls
All malls are open on New Year’s Eve, but closed New Year’s Day.
