What’s open and closed Labour Day in Ottawa

The last long weekend of the summer has arrived, and that means there are a number of closures around the city on Monday. 

Here is your Labour Day long weekend rundown:

Shopping and attractions:

Most stores, malls and grocery stores are closed Monday, with the exception of the Metro and Loblaws on Rideau Street. Both the Metro and Loblaws are open 24 hours.

The Whole Foods at Lansdowne will also be open Monday from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. and the Farm Boy in Rideau Centre is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Stores in the ByWard Market are open, including the Rideau Centre, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Beer Store on Bank Street just south of Walkley Road and at College Square off Baseline Road will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.  

This is the first year the Beer Store has remained open on Labour Day in Ontario. 

All LCBO locations are closed Monday, while many SAQ's are open in Quebec.

Banks are also closed on Monday.

Client services:

Ottawa City Hall and client service centres are closed Monday.

The City’s Provincial Offences Court will also be closed.

The City’s 311 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters. Call 311 or 613-580-2400 to speak to a customer service representative. For persons with a hearing-related disability, call TTY: 613-580-2401.

Garbage, green bin, and recycling collection:

There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, or garbage collection on Labour Day, with pickup delayed by one day for the week.

Also, there will be no multi-residential bulky items, green bin and recycling container collection on Labour Day, with pickup taking place on Tuesday.

The Trail Waste Facility is closed Monday.

Parking:

All City of Ottawa parking regulations apply.

Transit:

OC Transpo is operating a Sunday schedule on Labour Day, as well, the new fall schedule goes into effect on Sunday.

The OC Transpo Customer Service Centre at the Rideau Centre will be open from 10 am to 6 pm. The customer service centres at Lincoln Fields, Place d’Orléans and St-Laurent will be closed.

The OC Transpo customer service and information line (613-741-4390) will be open from 7 am to 9 pm.

Para Transpo will operate a holiday service. Regularly scheduled trips will be cancelled automatically. Customers can book trips for Labour Day starting on Monday, August 26 by calling 613-244-7272.

Recreation services:

Some outdoor pools, indoor pools, and fitness centres are open for public swimming and fitness classes, with modified schedules.

Beaches and splash pads are open but unsupervised.

Most registered programs at swimming pools, community centres and arenas are cancelled; however, clients should check with their facility to confirm, as some exceptions apply.

Ottawa Public Health:

The SITE Mobile Van is operating from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The Sexual Health Centre 179 Clarence Street and Satellite Clinics, SITE office, Dental Clinics, and Well Baby Drop-In are closed.

The Ottawa Public Health Information Line (OPHIL) and the Aids-Sexual Health Info Line are closed; however, you can call and leave a message and inquiries will be responded to within one business day.

Cultural Services:

A number of museums are open. Check the specific museum website for details, as hours may have changed. 

The Karsh-Masson Gallery, Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, City Hall Art Gallery and Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at City Hall will be open.

City arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums will be closed.

Archives Services:

The City of Ottawa Archives Reference Services and Gallery 112 will be closed from August 31 to September 2.

Municipal childcare services:

City-operated Child Care Centres are closed.

Ottawa Public Library:

All branches, departments and services of the Ottawa Public Library are closed. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday.
