What’s open and closed on Family Day in Ottawa

With Family Day coming up, residents can expect some closures and schedule changes to City of Ottawa services.

On Monday, February 15, the following tweaks to services for the Ottawa area include:

Client services

  • Client service centres, including the Government Service Centre at 110 Laurier Ave. W and the centre at Ben Franklin Place, will be closed.
  • All other client service centres and the city’s provincial offences court are closed.
  • The 3-1-1 contact centre will be open for urgent matters that need the city’s immediate attention.

Garbage collection

There will be no curbside or multi-residential green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Monday. The pick-up will take place on Tuesday, February 16. As a result, the collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular scheduled day.

Multi-residential recycling container and green bin collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.

The Trail Waste Facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking

The city will not enforce overtime parking on streets that don’t have posted limits. All other city parking regulation and restrictions will apply during this time, however.

Winterlude

There is no special service operating for Winterlude because of the pandemic.

OC Transpo

OC Transpo buses will operate on a reduced weekday schedule.

O-Train Line 1 and Line 2 buses will run on a normal weekday schedule.

All OC Transpo customer service centres will be closed.

Presto cards can be bought and loaded using ticket machines at all O-Train Line 1 stations, Greensboro Station and the Ottawa International Airport, as well as at Shoppers Drug Mark, Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstore locations. Cards can also be loaded online at PrestoCard.ca, by phone at 1-877-378-6123 or by downloading the PRESTO app.

The OC Transpo customer service will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Société de transport de l’Outaouais customer can plan their trips using Plani-bus.

Para Transpo will operate on a holiday service. Regular scheduled trips will be automatically cancelled. Customers can book trips for Family Day by calling 613-244-7272 or by filling out the online reservation form. Para Transpo operation like taxi coupons will stay open, as will the reservation line from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The trip cancellations and general inquiries like will also be open from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Other city services

All indoor pools and fitness centre will be closed.

The Mayor’s annual skating party at Marion Dewar Plaza at city hall has been cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The Tom Brown respite centre at 141 Bayview Rd. will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Bernard Grandmaite respite centre at 309 McArthur Rd. and the St. Paul’s Eastern United Church respite centre at 473 Cumberland St. will be closed.

Hours of operation for Ottawa Public Health COVID-19 testing locations will also be altered.

  • Moodie Care: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Heron Care: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Brewer Park: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • CHEO’s assessment centre: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • COVID-19 drive-thru at city hall/NAC: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Ray Frield: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Centretown, Sandy Hill and Somerset West centres and the pop-up testing site at the Vanier Community Service Centre will be closed.

OPH’s sexual health clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.

Site needle and syringe program site office at 179 Clarence St. will be closed Monday. The Site mobile van will operate on a regular schedule from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The Karsh-Masson Gallery, Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, City Hall Art Gallery and Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at city hall will be closed.

The city of Ottawa archives and Gallery 112 are also closed, as well as all other city arts centres, gallery, theatres and museums.

All municipal childcare centre will not be operating, as is the Ottawa Public Library.

Grocery stores

Most Loblaws locations will be closed, with the exception of a few. The open locations include:

  • Rideau Street: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Isabella Street: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Metro locations that will be open on Monday are:

  • Metro Pembroke: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Metro Glebe: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Metro Renfrew: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Metro Carline Avenue: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Strandherd Drive: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Tenth Line Road: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Beechwood Avenue: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Bank Street: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro McCarthy Rd.: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Walkley Road: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Innes Road: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Metro Merivale Road: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Shoppers Drug Mart locations that are not closed are:

  • Bank and Laurier Avenues: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Rideau Centre: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • 455 Bank St.: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Rideau and King Edward: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • The Glebe: 8 a.m. to midnight
  • Bank and Sunnyside: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Alta Vista: 8 a.m. to midnight
  • Westgate: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Bank and Heron: 8 a.m. to midnight
  • Montreal and St. Laurent: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Meadowland Drive East: 9 a.m. to midnight
  • Bank and Walkley: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Westboro: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Fairlawn Plaza: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Southgate: 8 a.m. to midnight
  • Shoppers City East: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Beacon Hill Shopping Centre: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Richmond and Carling: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

COVID-19 testing outside of Ottawa

Smiths Falls COVID-19 testing will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but appointments must be scheduled for both the Smiths Falls and Perth Smiths Falls Hospital sites.

The COVID-19 testing centre in Almonte is closed on Monday.

The Kemptville testing centre at Bell Hall at 15 Campus Drive, however, will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
