Wind wreaks havoc across Ottawa, causing power outages

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: Hydro Ottawa crews now dealing with less than 1,000 customers in the dark.

Hydro One crews have cleared all other outages in the capital region. 

Gatineau Park is closed due to hazardous conditions.

More than 9,600 Hydro Ottawa customers are without power as the capital region continues to get hammered by winds of up to 80 km/hr in areas.

The outages have been affecting residents in Rideau-Rockcliffe, Beacon Hill-Cyrville, Cumberland, Osgoode, Alta Vista, Gloucester-Southgate, Kitchissippi, Bay, College and West Carleton-March since about 7 a.m., Friday.

According to Hydro Ottawa's outage map, most of the issues are expected to be cleared up between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

As of 9:40 a.m., the utility said all of its crews were mobilized.

Hydro One is dealing with a number of power outages outside of Ottawa city limits, including one affecting more than 3,000 customers, from Winchester down to Morrisburg around 10 a.m., and another just east of Arnprior affecting about 530.
