South Glengarry Mayor Frank Prevost facing multiple sex-related charges

By CityNews Ottawa

The County Warden of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Frank Prevost has been charged by the Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit with child luring offences following an online undercover operation.

Police said that on June 8, Frank J. Provost, 53, of Cornwall was arrested and charged with three counts of luring a child.

As a result of a separate investigation involving an adult victim, the accused has also been charged with one count of sexual assault.

Prevost is in the middle of his second consecutive term as Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry, and has been in municipal politics for over 20 years.

The accused was held for a video bail hearing at the Cornwall courthouse.

OPP says it has seen an increase in online offender behaviour by people with intent to sexually exploit children.

Because of this, the OPP is actively conducting proactive online luring investigations to “aggressively target” these offenders, they add.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation, or information regarding child exploitation, is asked to contact the OPP 1-888-310-2222.

Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submitted online through CyberTip.ca.
