Ottawa man facing fraud charges after 13 people bilked out of $600K

By Mike Vlasveld

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) says an Ottawa business and its owner defrauded 13 people out of more than a $600,000, in a scheme which convinced the victims to invest in a Carleton Place housing project.

Officers say fraud allegations against Innovalty Investments Ltd. and its owner were made in 2016 and 2017.

Police believe that there may be other victims in this case, and are asking them to contact police.

James Pellerin, 65, of Ottawa has been charged with:

  • Fraud over $5,000 (eight counts)
  • Obtaining credit by false pretence or by fraud (13 counts)

He was released with a condition to appear in court on January 29.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa Police’s Organized Fraud Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5292. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or at crimestoppers.ca.
