By Mike Vlasveld

An Ottawa man, killed while reportedly fleeing from Ville de Gatineau Police, has been identified.

Quebec's police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, has identified him as Zachary Fairbairn, 28.

Officers were called to Casino du Lac-Leamy for reports of a man trying to steal cars back on June 21.

When officers tried to arrest him, the man took off running and was hit by a car.

He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The investigation continues, as police are still looking for witnesses.
